Step into a transformative musical experience at the JAZZ Nation Summer Institute — an immersive, week-long intensive designed for middle and high school musicians who are serious about jazz and ready to elevate their artistry.

This is not your typical summer camp. The JAZZ Nation Summer Institute is a focused, conservatory-style program that mirrors the real-world expectations of today’s professional musicians. Students are challenged to think, create, and perform at a higher level while being supported in an environment that fosters growth, discipline, and artistic exploration.

Through rigorous rehearsals, masterclasses, and performance opportunities, participants develop not only their technical skills, but also their musical voice, confidence, and understanding of the jazz tradition.

We are currently accepting students on the following instruments:

• Trumpet 
• Saxophone 
• Trombone 
• Rhythm Section: Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums/Percussion 

Have another instrument in mind? Just ask — we’re happy to explore options!

Note: Students must have at least one year of experience on their instrument.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just beginning to explore the world of jazz, the Summer Institute will challenge, inspire, and elevate your musicianship. Participants will:

• Perform in small jazz combos, big band, and jazz concert band
• Gain experience in both ensemble performance and solo playing
• Develop their skills through improvisation and theory classes
• Learn directly from top-call professional musicians and educators in dynamic masterclasses
• Perform in the live end-of-week concert for the community

• $400 per student
• No audition required — all levels welcome!
• Students receive a swag bag: water bottle, folder, pencil, and lanyard
• Limited spots available — reserve early to secure your place!

The Experience: 

Students will receive instruction from San Antonio's first-call, professional jazz artists and educators. Our faculty offers in-depth knowledge that can only be learned on the bandstand — JAZZ Nation provides this one-of-a-kind experience to students seeking to excel in jazz performance.

The Institute culminates in a special live performance, where students showcase their growth and talent for family, friends, and the community in a celebration of their musical journey.
